Photo shoot videos.

The midnight beast photos and videos.
These images/videos help me think about the lighting choice and costume and camera angles to be used when doing my photo shoot.
The Camera angles I will think about using is low angle straight on in a medium close up.
This is so you can clearly see the faces of each individual band member. The low angle is to show they are powerful, and dominant in the magazine.
The lighting used will be toned, this means that there will be some lighting to illuminate their faces but not too much to make them look pale white.
The clothing used will be black so that the light used can bounce off them, creating a nice effect, the shadows may also be seen from the lighting so you can see their silhouette behind them.

Ed Sheeran photos and videos.
As there are a lot of lights and effects used at a gig, the photos from seeing Ed Sheeran live have helped me think about what effects/lighting to use on my photos.
The lighting used made me think about the lighting that should be used in my photos; I wanted enough light to illuminate the faces of the band, but not enough light to complete over expose the photo, and make them look like ghosts. I wanted them to look alive against a white background.

Demographics
Demographics are those aspect of society or culture that are measurable and can be used to put people into categories. Income and job level can be used to help put members of a large population into smaller groupings. These groupings are as follows:
These 6 categories were originally created by the Nation Readership Survey (they have been doing this for over 50 years) and it is to classify readers for media purposes.
E being the lowest is unemployed, students and pensioners.
D being slightly higher are manual workers who are semi or unskilled.
C2 being middle class are skilled manual workers such as builders, contractors.
C1 being higher again are people who are in junior management and administration.
B being in the upper are people in intermediate management, slightly higher administration.
A Being the highest of the classifications are people in high management jobs like CEO's.
If you choose the wrong demographics your magazine will not be bringing in any income for your company due to the fact that your target audience, price and articles are all wrong.
My magazine will be aimed at the groups E, D and C2. So therefore my magazine will priced at £1.90, and it will be monthly. This is due to the fact that these groups will not be earning a great deal of money, so the price is a nice fit. Also I have decided that it should be monthly as I added a poll onto my blog and all but a few people chose monthly. I decided this would be the best choice as £1.90 a week would be expensive for a student, especially if they wanted every issue, they would be behind on issues and be down on quite a bit of money.
The music genre will also be Rock, Pop-rock and Indie.

Double page spread ideas!
The idea for the double page spread is that the background of the page will be white, but a splash of yellow going across the center of the page. This will be so that on the left hand side there will be the main image, which will be the band, which follows on from the other two photos taken. (pulling a different pose). The yellow splash will make them stand out as they will be wearing blacks/grays. On the right hand side I will position an article about how they rose to fame on the yellow banner. On the white will be interviewer questions. This is so the main article stands out too.
The band will be wearing the same clothes that have been worn on the front cover. This is so that there is continuity within the magazine. The singer will still be carrying the mic, and screaming into it. The cable will be trailing on the floor, and be visible.
Contents page ideas!
My contents page idea for the main photo is that the singer will place a finger over his mouth as if to go 'shhh'. The drummer will be screaming, and the bass guitarist will be either screaming with him, or going to punch him, as if abiding by the singers request.
There will be other small photos at the bottom right hand corner, showing images inside on certain pages, there will also be an editors note, with a photo of the editor.

Front cover idea:
This hand drawn was the first mock-up that I completed. It was very basic and it was just to give me a basic understanding of what features are to be used. Later on I produced another mock-up but on the computer.
This one has changed from the hand drawn copy. This is because my ideas developed, I started to plan ahead and think of the photo I would use, and where would be best to place other items on the page. So There will be small photos around the side showing posters of bands that are available in the magazine. Gigs that have happened will also appear on the front having a corner to attract people in. There will also be a competition in the bottom right hand corner, there may be a photo included. But this competition must involve something that the audience of the magazine will like/enjoy
In this photo, there will be confetti, either falling infront of the camera, or being thrown from behind the band. The colours of the confetti will be Yellow, Orange, and green. The lighting will be natural if the room is already nicely lit. I will also take each photo twice, once without shadowing, one with. This is to see which looks best.

Kerrang! Reader profile
Kerrang! has a really young with a median age of 22. Having a younger profile is a big advantage as traditionally this age group is elusive (and expensive) to reach. As well as music releases this makes Kerrang! perfect for film and games, and also mobile technology and government messages

Competition Ideas
Firstly I asked a small group of people what competitions they would like featuring in a magazine, some ideas were raised and I put these into a table and then walked around asking people which they would prefer to win from a magazine. The results I collected were as follows:
As clothing was the most popular competition prize I then gathered information on popular clothing brands that people between 15-24 years were wearing. People then raised labels like:

I then conducted another questionnaire to figure out which clothing label was most popular to be the prize for my issue of my magazine. It was as follows:

I then took this information and decided that Drop Dead were to be the competition of this issue of my magazine thanks to my research.
